You know I’m all about helping you find the best eats in the city, right?
Well, this time, I called in a real pro to help.
Meet Ryan Baddeley, the chef and owner behind Pizzeria Badiali—aka the most mentioned spot in our Best of Toronto series. His pizza has basically become legendary in Toronto, and if anyone knows where to find great food in the city, it’s Ryan.
In this week’s newsletter, Ryan takes us through his picks for the perfect day of eating in Toronto. We’re talking soup for breakfast, a hidden sandwich bar, and even where he grabs a late-night bite.
Consider this series like having a cheat sheet to Toronto’s best food, straight from someone who knows their stuff.
And if you enjoyed this post, feel free to send it to a foodie friend!
Breakfast
“After a busy week I love to reset with a bowl of hot soup for breakfast. Yes breakfast. I will take a congee or noodle soup in the morning over a traditional breakfast any day. In Chinatown, King Noodle is a classic for Chinese bbq. I typically go for duck leg and their pork and shrimp wonton noodle soup. A bowl of hot broth, noodles, salty meat and juicy dumplings with a side of Fried Chinese donut to soak up that chili oil is a perfect way to start the day.”
Lunch
“I love this little hidden gem in McCormick Park next to the arena. I will drive out of my way for its crushable Japanese sandwiches like the ebi fry sando or the spicy karage sando they are the perfect mid afternoon lunch in the park.”
Dinner
“Always delicious, this is a staple for me on the Danforth for their pub classics . I love their chowder this time of year, the fish and chips or their burger and a perfect pour of Guinness. A quintessential neighbourhood restaurant that my family has been going to for many years.”
Late Night
“My neighbourhood go to bar when I also need a couple tasty late night plates. Okinomiyaki latkes and clam frites are perfect pairings to one of their cocktails or foamers.”
That’s it for this one!
